We've all heard the phrase "lead by example". We want to INSPIRE by example and, in turn, we want all of you to be inspired to do the same!
When people find themselves faced with dire projections about the future of our planet, circumstances can overwhelm and, quite often, some variation of the phrase "Why bother -- what's the point?" becomes an all-too-common refrain.
In order to have environmental change, we have to look at the whole realm of human motivation. Why do people do what they do? And why would people want to join this urgent, global cause?
"Why bother - what's the point?" is exactly the kind of thought process that got us into this situation and is a choice of inaction that should never be an option. Instead, it should be the inspiration; the first in a series of revelations that compel us to grow into more impressive people with higher standards for ourselves and our behavior, and instills in us a greater appreciation of our responsibility to others.
In this new period of environmental consequences, we can no longer afford to be soothed into the belief that things will be okay. We all have to become inspired in order to find the motivation to take this thing on.
At the December, 2007, Bali climate change conference, Al Gore said:
"Instead of shaking our heads at the difficulty of this task, and saying "Woe is us, this is impossible, how can we do this?", we ought to feel a sense of joy that we have work that is worth doing that is so important to the future of all humankind. We ought to feel a sense of exhilaration that we are the people alive at a moment in history when we can make all the difference."
(Al Gore: the world can't wait for George Bush, The Independent, December 14, 2007)
We've all heard the phrase "lead by example". We want to INSPIRE by example and, in turn, we want all of you to be inspired to do the same!
The planet won't wait for us to save it, ourselves or those we love.
